Hello, I’m Xianmin, your IT tech butler, and this is my startup weekly journal.

Week 8 Startup Actions

This week I connected with an outsourcing company that probably needed extra hands, so they found me.
I started with some small tasks, and I noticed their project was a long-term one with many tasks remaining.
I took the initiative to suggest to the manager: “Why not book my afternoons exclusively for your projects? That way I won’t have to look for other work.”
My thinking was simple: working half-days gives both parties flexibility to make arrangements. They want to save costs, and I don’t want to rely completely on one company - it’s mutually beneficial.

Last month, a follower commented, “Having work keeps the mind at ease.”
I think they made a good point.

Thinking about it, “having work” can be broken down into two dimensions: “having skills” and “having clients”.
“Having skills” helps avoid being eliminated by the market. “Having clients” prevents falling into a passive position.

As a tech worker, in the past, I focused solely on improving my skills, while completely ignoring the dimension of “having clients.”

Reflections

  1. I’ve been quite busy these past two weeks, a bit overloaded with projects.
  2. My time allocation has been unreasonable, with personal projects progressing slowly. Can’t have it both ways…
  3. Too many ideas, not enough focus.

A Quick Share

I truly don’t know what to write about this week. My thoughts are scattered, but to avoid making this post too shallow, let me share my project management method.

I use the PARA file management method (Project, Area, Resource, and Archive), proposed by Tiago Forte.

For daily short-term work, everything happens in the Project/ directory. Whenever I start a project, I create a new folder with the date noted at the beginning.

When a project is completed and no longer active, I move it to the Archive/ directory.

It’s that simple.

Closing Thoughts

I need to find time to take a break.
